Susi B. Burns

Susie Burns provides clients with effective legal services in all areas of labor and employment law, municipal law, workers’ compensation, business law and litigation. She is results-oriented, has extensive litigation experience in all types of labor and employment claims, and has won multiple trial verdicts and countless summary dismissals on behalf of clients. She is an aggressive, analytical strategist and has successfully defended employers in cases involving allegations of violations of the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, New Jersey Disability Act, Family Medical Leave Act, the Conscientious Employee Protection Act, due process, and freedom of association rights. She also has extensive experience implementing temporary and preliminary injunctive relief enforcing restrictive covenants and confidentiality provisions in employment agreements. Additionally, she has conducted investigations on behalf of employers into employee claims of discrimination, retaliation, and other workplace violations and provides counseling.

Susie has successfully opposed motions for class certification in actions alleging the misclassification of employees and has filed multiple successful motions to dismiss lawsuits and compel individual arbitration in potential class action lawsuits alleging wage and hour claims. She also assists clients in resolving matters through mediation. Additionally, she has represented clients in numerous contract, partnership, and shareholder disputes.

Susie also assists clients by analyzing their business to develop cost-effective strategies to avoid litigation. Alongside conducting educational seminars, she engages in policy formulation, contract drafting, negotiation and provides counseling to employers regarding workplace issues. Susie represents clients in state and federal courts in New Jersey and New York and before administrative agencies, such as the Department of Labor, Equal Opportunity Commission, Workers’ Compensation Board, Division of Unemployment Insurance, and National Labor Relations Board.

Susie holds a BA from the University of Hartford and a JD from Rutgers University.
